This letter was sent to my rep in the House:
Dear Representative Huizenga,
Yesterday I sent you an email asking you to vote against any bills which cut benefits such as Medicaid and SNAP. The response I received stated that you are “always on the lookout for legislation that offers commonsense reforms to our larger healthcare system.” That is wonderful news!
I ask you, then, to immediately sponsor a bill to create a system of universal healthcare for all US citizens. This would benefit all of your constituents by providing access to needed healthcare without regard to their ability to pay. In our current system people too often are forced to avoid seeking care because of it’s exorbitant expense. Any serious illness carries with it the all too real risk of bankruptcy. Universal healthcare would solve these important issues as well as save our nation billions of dollars currently spent on health care, much of which does nothing but line the pockets of insurance companies and their executives. The National Institutes of Health estimated savings of $450 billion annually and the Congressional Budget Office has estimated savings as high as $650 billion annually.
Sincerely,
Rev. Kenneth Arthur
